Girls Forward Initiative

Originally established as our foundation's primary flagship program, GFI now serves as a deeply specialized and essential pillar of our broader structural work across Sierra Leone. Today, the program operates actively across 10 partner schools, bringing structured health education and biological dignity directly to classrooms where adolescent girls need it most. Powered by our dedicated network of passionate youth volunteers alongside certified, practicing Volunteer Nurses, the initiative ensures that every student receives trusted medical accuracy, safe diagnostic counseling, and direct pathways to professional clinical care. By stripping away taboos and providing life-changing support on the ground, the Girls Forward Initiative remains a vital ecosystem dedicated to keeping young women safe, healthy, and confidently in school.

School-Based Health Clubs

School-Based Health Clubs

The SERAY WURIE FOUNDATION actively establishes school-based health clubs across both the Western Area Rural and Western Area Urban districts of Sierra Leone. By embedding these permanent safe spaces directly within local school networks, we create an accessible, youth-led environment where adolescent girls can gather, support one another, and confidently discuss reproductive development. These clubs break down generational taboos and societal judgment, allowing young women to share their lived experiences and realize that access to accurate information is a fundamental right.

Clinical Nurse Support

Clinical Nurse Support

Education is only as effective as its accuracy, which is why our school sessions connect peer-led networks directly with certified, practicing volunteer nurses. By having professional medical practitioners facilitate these vital discussions, we ensure that students receive trusted, evidence-based health information, clear biological literacy, and non-discriminatory guidance. This professional clinical support effectively counters dangerous self-medication trends and widespread misinformation, ensuring that adolescents are equipped to be the primary decision-makers over their own bodies and health.

Dignity Kit and Commodity Distribution

Dignity Kit Distribution

True health equity requires tangible resources, which is why the Girls Forward Initiative actively runs its Dignity Kit Distribution program. By donating comprehensive hygiene packages and sanitary pads to over 500 girls, we directly dismantle period poverty across our 10 partner schools in Sierra Leone. We believe that natural biological cycles must never force a young woman to compromise her education, and this distribution ensures that adolescent girls remain healthy, dignified, and confidently in school.

PurelyHer: Partnering in Change

Period poverty should never stand between an adolescent girl and her right to an education. The SERAY WURIE FOUNDATION is incredibly proud to partner with PurelyHer to tackle this systemic barrier head-on. Through this powerful collaboration, the SERAY WURIE FOUNDATION successfully distributed 500 pads directly to schoolgirls across our partner networks. This joint effort directly supports the Girls Forward Initiative (GFI) by providing the tangible resources necessary to ensure that natural biological cycles never force a young woman to compromise her education or miss a single day of class.
